Symbiosis

Symbiosis is based on the concept that the earth has billions of microscopic and macroscopic organisms that work together to keep one another healthy. I created the editions using collagraphy and lithography. Intaglio and relief techniques were both used to create editions with the collagraph. I was inspired to create Symbiosis while completing microbiology and mycology courses, because of how abundant and impactful microorganisms are, both in the environment and in healthcare. I found it unfathomable how much more exploration still needs to be done to help us understand these billions of organisms. Microorganisms are such an important part of other organism’s health and well-being, and some organisms, like mushrooms, keep entire forests alive. Often, these microorganisms are affected by chemicals, pollutants, and other man-made adjustments to the environment for things such as agriculture or construction. I hope to bring awareness to the importance of microorganisms and keeping their habitats just as safe as other visible organisms.
